"Dannebrog". Evening light

There are things that we cannot explain, but we accept it as an axiom. I don't know why I like ships and sailing so much... maybe I read too much Jules Verne as a child... maybe it's because of the constant desire to learn new things, the desire to go beyond the horizon... Anyway, neither a huge aircraft carrier nor a small wooden boat will make me indifferent.

This is happened one summer evening in Aarhus. I was in the harbor of Aarhus several times and already knew all the ships that were there; the visual memory of the artist preserved for me the color and outline of the harbor in its usual form. But this time the color changed: in the harbor was this white miracle, the Dannebrog, the royal ship. It was cloudy and lightly raining - normal weather for Denmark. For me, this transformation of day into night, the moments of changing lighting, the beginning of the dominance of ultramarine in the evening sky will always remain magic. Like a flash, the side lights of the ship turned on with orange strokes of paint on the canvas and the picture formed into a single whole... I made this painting, having a memory picture in my head. The light, giving a state of calm, comfort in the midst of bad weather and the beginning of the night... calm and balance, which is sometimes so lacking for many, but which can be found, sometimes by going through trials.... I thought about it then in those moments, standing in Aarhus harbor under the evening bluethe sky, fascinated by the light on board the ship, not noticing the rain.
